Oliver lives and work in London and has been an illustrator for 22 years. He says: "I was originally inspired to become an illustrator by the progressive rock album covers of the Seventies, in particular the work of Roger Dean. Though time and technology have moved on there was an organic quality to Roger Dean's work that inspires my work to this day."
In his diverse work, Oliver aims to visualise scientific concepts, which he holds in particular fascination, in "ever more imaginative ways". However, there is a responsibility that comes with this, as the image of a concept can become the reality if the true reality is unknown: "We all think we know what a black hole looks like - do we? Or do we only know what an illustrator imagines?" Oliver says: "Though I always jump at the chance to illustrate the unknown and unseen, from dark stars to dark energy, in ever more creative ways, I'm certain the reality of such things when finally revealed will be far beyond the imaginings of any of us."
