Anne-Katrin grew up in East Germany and moved to London in 1984. For four years she worked for Associated Press, often photographing the scientists whose discoveries made news headlines. Since then she has worked freelance and has continued to photograph leading British scientists for government clients.
Even when photographing scientists simply for her own collection, Anne-Katrin's journalism background has influenced the style of her photography. She prefers to capture people in their working environment, with current equipment and literature around them, in order to produce "a document of our time as much as an image of the person".
On her favoured subjects, Anne-Katrin explains: "In a society that is preoccupied with celebrity culture, meeting scientists - people who are more concerned with presenting the results of their work than their own image - is a rather sobering experience."
