Daniel Saftner

Daniel is a graduate student in hydrologic sciences at the University of Nevada in Reno and a research assistant at the Desert Research Institute. He researches the impact of climate change on groundwater quality in Niger, looking at how the varying intensity of the West African Monsoon affects groundwater in the Sahel and how understanding this could help to improve access to potable water in the region. His interest in international water issues stems from his background in geology and from his time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, where he served as a physics teacher and manager of water, sanitation and hygiene projects. He returned home to co-found a scientific imaging company, Macroscopic Solutions LLC, with Mark Smith – whose support made this image possible.
