Alfred Anwander

Alfred is a German neuroscientist who works on mapping connections in the brain at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. He has an engineering background in image processing and obtained a PhD in microscopic image analysis in Lyon, France. As a postdoc he joined the MPI and was attracted by the anatomical details provided by the new methods of diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging and tractography. He is working on characterising anatomical connections between different brain areas, with an emphasis on the language networks. Using the beauty of brain images and videos as a link between neuroscience and art, he contributes to the public visibility of modern neuroscience.
