Gabriel Luna

Gabe lives in Santa Barbara, California. After completing his undergraduate work at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006 he became a research specialist in Steven K Fisher’s Retinal Cell Biology Laboratory at the university’s Neuroscience Research Institute. His primary research interest lies in using advanced imaging techniques and bioinformatics to study neurodegenerative conditions such as retinal degeneration – specifically, how the neural retina responds to injury at the cellular level.

Gabe has produced award-winning images for the Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition, the Olympus BioScapes International Digital Imaging Competition and the FASEB BioArt Contest, and has had his images feature in the ‘Journal of Microscopy and Analysis’ and ‘Microscopy Today’.

On a personal note, Gabe enjoys learning to play the acoustic guitar, long-distance trail running and landscape photography.
