Kara Cerveny

Kara has always been fascinated by the natural world and the way we perceive our surroundings. She says: "My scientific curiosity was sparked by explorations of the fields, bogs, oceans and prairies near my childhood homes in the United States." She studied biology and chemistry at Duke University, with fond memories of her time at the Duke Marine Lab, and then earned her PhD at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. Kara is a postdoctoral researcher in Steve Wilson’s lab at UCL and her work focuses on eye growth and development. Her enthusiasm for all types of biology and her desire to be a lifelong learner led her to recently accept a position as a scientific editor at 'Cell', where she says she "reads lots and lots of manuscripts and contemplates many beautiful images".
