Peter DeMuth

Peter's research career began as an undergraduate working with Professor Philip DeShong at the University of Maryland, where he first began collecting transmission electron micrographs of porous nanoparticles as a part of an effort to design more effective particle-based drug delivery approaches for cancer therapy. Peter says, "These first experiences with electron microscopy were captivating - the idea that I could see such miniscule features has always been an exciting part of my work."

After graduating, Peter continued his career in research as a PhD candidate in biological engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he is currently working to complete his PhD with Professor Darrell Irvine and Professor Paula Hammond. His work focuses on materials design for transcutaneous drug and vaccine delivery with an emphasis on microneedle delivery for HIV vaccine development.
